Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing uses fractional laser technology to treat minor to severe skin damage. Such laser is an effective treatment for scarring, sun spots, wrinkles and other signs of aging. The laser targets both the superficial and the deeper layers of the skin giving a smoother, fresher and more youthful appearance. The treatment is carried out by our doctor. During your initial consultation the doctor will discuss the procedure with you and come up with a personalised treatment plan. For the best results it is recommended that patients have 3 to 6 sessions of laser treatment. Each treatment will take between 20 to 30 minutes.

How It Works

The treatment uses patented fractional technology to target damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into the skin. The laser treats only a fraction of the tissue at a time leaving the surrounding tissue untouched. This stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin. The microtrauma created by the laser stimulates the production of collagen which plumps the skin and helps to reduce imperfections. Depending on the level of the treatment, you may experience redness or swelling after the procedure. This should subside within 1 to 4 days.

Laser resurfacing works by delivering microscopic laser columns deep into the dermis to create tiny wounds that trigger your body’s natural response system to heal those wounds. This process stimulates the collagen and elastin fibres which result in tighter, fresher, younger looking skin. Skin resurfacing laser used to treat:

How to care for your skin after your treatment:

For the best results we advise you observe the following recommendations. Please ensure that the treated area is well moisturized with frequent applications of a non-perfumed topical moisturizer, ideally containing an SPF of 50 or greater. Do not irritate the treated area with harsh chemicals such as acne medications or face scrubs for 5-7days after your treatment. Wash the treated area gently with a mild soap and water. If the treated area is red or irritated, the area should not be rubbed with a face cloth or towel but lightly patted dry.

We recommend that you minimize your sun exposure to prevent further damage throughout the course of treatment. A sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or greater should be applied whenever the area is exposed to the sun. If you develop a tan within the proposed treated area, delay further treatments for 2 weeks or until the tan has significantly faded. Avoid excessive heat or friction to the treated area e.g. heavy exercise, saunas. Provided that there is no persistent redness, blistering, or crusting present in the treatment area you may resume all normal activities.

F.A.Q

As we age, our skin begins to produce less collagen. Collagen is the main structural protein found in the skin and is responsible for keeping skin looking and feeling its best. Through the normal ageing process, visible imperfections become more apparent- fine lines, deep wrinkles, pigmentary changes, scars. Fractional CO2 Laser is a resurfacing treatment which allows the skin to restructure its outer layer back to its natural, healthy, glowing complexion with quick healing times and few potential complications. Treating acne scars, stretch marks and other types of scarring with CO2 laser can reduce their appearance. A fully ablative CO2 laser will vaporize tissue, and has more downtime and is perfect to treat lesions that need to be removed.
When carried out by a trained doctor the treatment is very safe. As with all procedures there is a small risk of side effects but these are rare. Side effects can include slight redness and swelling of the treated area, blistering or bruising and hyper or hypopigmentation.
The number of treatments you will need depends on your skin type and your desired results. The high energy levels of our laser reduces the number of treatments required to achieve rejuvenation and also makes the process more cost effective when compared to extended treatments that are required by lower energy lasers. We recommend a series of 4 to 6 treatments to see a significant result. Each treatment should be carried out every 3 to 4 weeks. Each treatment lasts 10 to 20 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. Results are visible by the third session.
