Wegovy Price in Malaysia

Price Per Pen by Dose

Wegovy comes as a pre-filled FlexTouch pen. Each pen holds four weekly doses, so one pen covers roughly one month of treatment. You move through five dose strengths on a fixed schedule rather than choosing a dose yourself.

Based on publicly listed prices from Malaysian clinics and licensed pharmacies in 2026, typical pen prices fall in these ranges:

DoseStage of TreatmentTypical Price Per Pen (RM)
0.25 mgStarting dose, weeks 1–4RM899 – RM1,288
0.5 mgTitration, weeks 5–8RM899 – RM1,288
1 mgTitration, weeks 9–12RM899 – RM1,288
1.7 mgTitration, weeks 13–16RM1,088 – RM1,588
2.4 mgMaintenance, week 17 onwardsRM1,288 – RM2,088

The three lowest strengths are usually priced the same. Prices then step up for the 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg pens. Your exact cost at CLEO Clinic is confirmed at consultation, once your doctor has assessed your suitability and starting plan.

Monthly Cost During Titration and Maintenance

Because one pen lasts about a month, your monthly cost is roughly the price of your current pen plus consultation and follow-up. Expect the lower end of the range during the first three months, and the higher end once you reach the 2.4 mg maintenance dose from around month five.

What affects your total cost:

  • Which dose you’re currently on
  • Whether consultation, blood tests and follow-up reviews are bundled or charged separately
  • How long you stay on the maintenance dose
  • Whether your doctor adjusts your titration pace

Budget for the full course rather than the starting dose alone. Wegovy is designed as a long-term treatment, and most of the benefit comes during the maintenance phase.

Is Wegovy Covered by Insurance?

In most cases, no. Weight-management medication is generally excluded from Malaysian private health insurance and is paid out of pocket. If you have a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes or heart disease, check directly with your insurer or employer panel, as coverage terms vary.

Is Wegovy Available in Malaysia?

  • NPRA Registration Status

Yes. Wegovy was approved by Malaysia's National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) in April 2023 for chronic weight management in eligible adults. A global supply shortage delayed its arrival, and Novo Nordisk officially launched Wegovy in Malaysia in January 2026. The launch coverage also noted that more than half of Malaysian adults are overweight or living with obesity, according to the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2023.

This makes Wegovy an on-label weight-loss medication in Malaysia. Ozempic, which contains the same active ingredient, is registered for type 2 diabetes, so prescribing it for weight loss is off-label.

Wegovy Pen vs Wegovy Pill

The injectable pen is the only form of Wegovy currently prescribed in Malaysia. An oral semaglutide tablet version of Wegovy has been approved overseas, but it isn’t part of the Malaysian offering yet. If you’ve seen “Wegovy pill” mentioned online, it refers to the international tablet. Your doctor can confirm the current options, since availability may change.

Where to Get Wegovy Safely: Clinic vs Online Pharmacy

Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia. You can obtain it legitimately in two ways:

  • Through a registered doctor at a clinic or hospital: your doctor assesses you, prescribes, trains you to inject, and monitors your progress.
  • Through a licensed pharmacy, including online pharmacies: these still require a valid prescription or a tele-consultation with a registered doctor before dispensing.

What a clinic-based programme adds is continuity. The same doctor reviews your side effects, decides when to step up your dose, and plans what happens when you reach your goal.

How to Spot Counterfeit Wegovy

Supply shortages attract grey-market and counterfeit products. Protect yourself by:

  • Only buying with a prescription from a registered doctor or licensed pharmacy
  • Checking that the box carries a Malaysian MAL registration number and the Meditag hologram security label
  • Avoiding social media sellers, marketplace listings and anyone offering Wegovy without a consultation
  • Checking that the pen arrives refrigerated and the packaging is intact

If you’ve been sold Wegovy before its official January 2026 launch, ask your provider to confirm it was NPRA-registered stock.

What Is Wegovy
and How Does It Work?

Wegovy’s active ingredient is semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 is a hormone your gut releases after eating. Semaglutide mimics it at a higher and longer-lasting level than your body produces naturally.

It supports weight loss in three ways:

  • Appetite control: it acts on appetite centres in the brain, reducing hunger and food cravings
  • Slower stomach emptying: food stays in your stomach longer, so you feel full sooner and for longer
  • Better blood sugar regulation: it improves insulin response, which matters for people with insulin resistance or prediabetes

Wegovy is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not as a replacement for them.

Who Is Eligible for Wegovy?

Wegovy is approved for adults who have:

  • A BMI of 30 or above, or
  • A BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol or obstructive sleep apnoea

Your doctor also considers waist circumference, your weight history and previous attempts at weight loss, and your overall health. Asian populations tend to develop weight-related health risks at a lower BMI, so your doctor looks at the full picture rather than a single number. To check where you stand before your appointment, try our BMI calculator or body fat percentage calculator.

Who Should Not Take Wegovy

According to the official prescribing information, Wegovy must not be used if you have:

  • A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
  • Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • A previous serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or any ingredient in Wegovy

It is also not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Your doctor will take extra care, or may recommend a different option, if you have a history of:

  • Pancreatitis
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Kidney problems
  • Depression or suicidal thoughts
  • Type 2 diabetes treated with insulin or sulfonylureas, due to the risk of low blood sugar

Your Wegovy Treatment Journey at CLEO Clinic

Wegovy should never be handed over without a proper medical process. Here’s what treatment at CLEO Clinic involves.

Consultation and Eligibility Assessment

Your doctor reviews your medical history, current medications, weight history, BMI and waist measurement, and checks for any conditions that rule Wegovy out or need extra monitoring.

Pre-Treatment Blood Tests

Before prescribing, your doctor may request blood tests to establish a baseline and check it’s safe to start. These can include blood sugar (fasting glucose and HbA1c), cholesterol, liver and kidney function, and thyroid function, depending on your health history.

Injection Training and Titration Plan

You’ll receive a written titration schedule and a demonstration of how to inject correctly, so you’re confident self-injecting at home.

Regular Reviews

Follow-up appointments track your weight, side effects, blood pressure and how well you’re tolerating each dose. Your doctor decides when you’re ready to move up to the next dose, or whether to stay on your current dose for longer.

Maintenance and Stopping Wegovy

As you approach your goal, your doctor plans what comes next: continuing on a maintenance dose, adjusting it, or stopping with a structured plan. This matters because weight regain after stopping is common (see “Can I stop Wegovy once I reach my goal weight?” below).

Wegovy Dosage and Titration Schedule

Wegovy is injected once a week. You start on a low dose and increase every four weeks to reduce side effects.

StepWeekly DoseDuration
10.25 mgWeeks 1–4
20.5 mgWeeks 5–8
31 mgWeeks 9–12
41.7 mgWeeks 13–16
52.4 mgWeek 17 onwards (maintenance)

It takes about 16 weeks to reach the full maintenance dose. If side effects are difficult at any step, your doctor may keep you on that dose for longer before moving up. Don’t speed up the schedule on your own.

How to inject: Wegovy is injected under the skin of your abdomen, thigh or upper arm, once a week on the same day, at any time and with or without food. Store unused pens in the fridge and dispose of used needles in a sharps container.

Wegovy Results Timeline: What to Expect Month by Month

Most people notice reduced appetite within the first couple of weeks. Weight loss is gradual in the early months while the dose is still low, then becomes more noticeable as you approach the maintenance dose. The strongest results come with consistent, long-term treatment.

For a detailed breakdown of what typically happens at each stage, read our Wegovy month-by-month progress guide.

Benefits of
Wegovy for Weight Loss

Wegovy
1

Weight Loss Results from the STEP Trials

In the STEP 1 trial, adults with overweight or obesity who took semaglutide 2.4 mg alongside lifestyle changes lost an average of 14.9% of their body weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% on placebo. For someone weighing 90 kg, that's an average loss of about 13 kg.

2

Cardiovascular Benefits from the SELECT Trial

The SELECT trial studied semaglutide 2.4 mg in adults with overweight or obesity and established cardiovascular disease, but without diabetes. It found a 20% reduction in major cardiovascular events, including heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death. Wegovy is the only weight-management GLP-1 medication with cardiovascular outcome data in this group of patients.

3

Improvements in Weight-Related Health

As weight comes down, many patients also see improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. Once-weekly dosing is also simpler to stick with than daily injections.

4

On-Label for Weight Management

Unlike Ozempic, Wegovy doesn't require off-label prescribing to be used for this purpose.

Wegovy Side Effects and Safety

Common Side Effects and How to Manage Them

The most common side effects are digestive:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain or bloating
  • Reduced appetite

These are usually most noticeable during the first weeks and after each dose increase, and tend to settle as your body adjusts. Eating smaller meals, stopping when you feel full, avoiding very rich or fatty food, and drinking enough water all help. Tell your doctor if side effects stop you eating or drinking normally.

Serious Risks That Need Monitoring

Seek medical attention promptly if you notice:

  • Severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back (possible pancreatitis)
  • Pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems)
  • A lump or swelling in your neck, difficulty swallowing or persistent hoarseness
  • Signs of dehydration from ongoing vomiting or diarrhoea
  • New or worsening low mood or thoughts of self-harm

Surgery, Sedation and Pregnancy

  • Surgery and sedation: Malaysia’s NPRA has highlighted a risk of aspiration with GLP-1 medicines during general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Tell your surgical or procedure team in advance that you’re on Wegovy.
  • Pregnancy: Wegovy isn’t used during pregnancy. If you’re planning a pregnancy, stop treatment at least two months beforehand, in discussion with your doctor.

Changes to Your Skin and Face

Significant weight loss can leave loose skin and reduced facial volume, sometimes called “Ozempic face.” These are effects of weight loss itself rather than side effects of the medication. Our guides on loose skin after weight loss and Ozempic face explain why they happen and what can help.

What to Eat on Wegovy and How to Protect Muscle

Because Wegovy reduces appetite, the quality of what you eat matters more than ever. When weight comes off quickly, some of it can come from muscle rather than fat, so:

  • Prioritise protein at every meal: eggs, fish, chicken, tofu, tempeh, lentils and Greek yoghurt
  • Choose fibre-rich foods: vegetables, wholegrains and fruit help with fullness and constipation
  • Go easy on oily and rich dishes: heavy, fried or coconut-milk-rich meals are more likely to trigger nausea
  • Stay hydrated: reduced appetite can mean drinking less without noticing
  • Include strength training: resistance exercise two to three times a week helps preserve muscle

Wegovy vs Ozempic vs Mounjaro: How They Compare

Feature Wegovy Ozempic Mounjaro
Active ingredient Semaglutide Semaglutide Tirzepatide
How it works GLP-1 receptor agonist GLP-1 receptor agonist Dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist
NPRA registration Chronic weight management Type 2 diabetes Type 2 diabetes
Use for weight loss in Malaysia On-label Off-label Off-label
Maintenance dose for weight loss 2.4 mg weekly Lower than Wegovy Up to 15 mg weekly
Cardiovascular outcome data in people without diabetes Yes (SELECT trial) No No

Mounjaro generally produces greater average weight loss in trials, thanks to its dual-hormone action. Wegovy stands out for its weight-management registration in Malaysia and its cardiovascular data, which may matter more if you have heart-risk factors. Your doctor can help you weigh these against your goals, health history and budget.

For a full comparison, read our Mounjaro vs Ozempic vs Wegovy guide. If tirzepatide looks like a better fit, see our Mounjaro treatment page.

Switching from Ozempic or Saxenda to Wegovy

Switching is common, particularly for people who have plateaued on Ozempic or want to move from daily Saxenda injections to a weekly option. Your doctor decides your starting Wegovy dose based on what you were taking and how well you tolerated it. Never switch or combine these medications without medical supervision. If you’re currently on Ozempic or Saxenda, see our Ozempic and Saxenda treatment page.

Wegovy for PCOS and Type 2 Diabetes

Many women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) struggle with insulin resistance and weight gain that doesn’t respond well to diet alone. Wegovy isn’t specifically approved for PCOS, but it may help with PCOS-related weight gain when you meet the eligibility criteria. Read more in our guide to Wegovy and PCOS.

If you have type 2 diabetes, Wegovy can be prescribed for weight management, but your doctor will review your other diabetes medications first, since combining them can increase the risk of low blood sugar.

Why Choose CLEO Clinic for Wegovy

  • Genuine, NPRA-registered medication only: no unregistered imports or grey-market stock
  • LCP-certified doctors: overseeing your assessment, titration and follow-up from start to finish
  • KKM-registered clinics: in Sri Hartamas, Taipan USJ, Kepong and Cheras
  • Structured follow-up: regular reviews, not a one-off prescription
  • Honest advice: whether Wegovy, Mounjaro or a non-medication approach suits you best

Medication works best as part of a wider plan. Our medically supervised weight-loss programme combines treatment with nutrition and lifestyle support, and our guide on how to lose weight fast, safely covers the fundamentals. Once you’ve reached your goal, fat freezing can help with stubborn areas that weight loss alone doesn’t shift.

Slows Stomach Emptying, Faster Weight Loss
What It Is
Wegovy is a once-weekly injectable medication containing semaglutide, approved for chronic weight management. It works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone, reducing appetite and slowing digestion — helping you eat less and feel fuller for longer, alongside diet and exercise.
How It's Different
Unlike Ozempic (diabetes-approved, used off-label), Wegovy is officially approved for weight loss at a higher dose. It's also the only GLP-1 with proven cardiovascular benefits, setting it apart from Mounjaro and other weight-loss injections.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Wegovy in Malaysia

Yes. Wegovy was approved by Malaysia's NPRA in April 2023 for chronic weight management and has been available through registered clinics and licensed pharmacies since its official launch in January 2026. It's prescription-only, so you need an assessment by a registered doctor first.

Based on 2026 Malaysian listings, a Wegovy pen typically costs RM899 to RM1,288 for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg doses, and up to around RM2,088 for the 2.4 mg maintenance dose. One pen lasts about a month. Consultation and monitoring fees vary by clinic.

Yes. Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia. It must be prescribed by a registered doctor, and even licensed online pharmacies require a valid prescription or tele-consultation before they can dispense it.

Adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol. A doctor confirms eligibility after reviewing your full medical history, current medications and any conditions that rule Wegovy out.

In the STEP 1 trial, adults taking semaglutide 2.4 mg with lifestyle changes lost an average of 14.9% of their body weight over 68 weeks. Individual results vary depending on your starting weight, how consistently you follow treatment, and your diet and activity levels.

Both contain semaglutide. Wegovy is registered in Malaysia specifically for weight management and goes up to a higher 2.4 mg maintenance dose. Ozempic is registered for type 2 diabetes, so using it for weight loss is off-label. Wegovy also has cardiovascular outcome data from the SELECT trial in people without diabetes.

Neither is better for everyone. Mounjaro tends to produce greater average weight loss because it acts on two hormones. Wegovy is registered in Malaysia for weight management and has cardiovascular outcome data, which may matter more if you have heart-risk factors. Your doctor can recommend the better fit for you.

About 16 weeks. You start at 0.25 mg and step up every four weeks through 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1.7 mg before reaching the 2.4 mg maintenance dose. Your doctor may slow this down if side effects are difficult.

Yes, under medical supervision. Switching is common for people who have plateaued on Ozempic or want a weight-management-registered option. Your doctor will decide your starting Wegovy dose based on your current dose and how well you've tolerated it.

You can, but discuss it with your doctor first. In the STEP 1 extension study, people who stopped semaglutide regained about two-thirds of the weight they had lost within a year. A structured maintenance plan helps protect your results.
