Nose thread lift or nose filler ? which is better ? These are the most frequently asked questions during my consultation with any clients with an intent to have their nose reshaping treatment done at our clinic . Lets dig deep into the topic and understand more regarding the differences between these two treatments and which treatment is a better solution for you .
One may ask why the existence of such treatment ? is there is a basis to it ? is it just to make you look good ? Majority of us thinks that “we are living in a thriving and competitive society where everyone is self conscious and by means of looking better you might be able to present your better self to the society ” yes , that’s partially true . However there are certain deformity which may benefit from such treatment as well . Amongst those are crooked & twisted nose , nose with prominent dorsal hump and collapsed form also known as saddle nose deformity . Certain milder forms can be corrected by means of Thread lift and filler , severe deformity would require conventional rhinoplasty .
Unfortunately we live in an extremely visual society where many impressions are made on first glances of our faces. The prominent and distinctive feature on our faces is our nose. Hence, much has been made about what an ideal nose should look like. The idea of a perfect nose exists but is age, gender and culturally specific. A woman’s ‘ideal’ nose has generally been defined as one with a bridge that is high, straight and narrow with a turned up tip whereas a man’s nose should ideally project confidence, balanced with the chin and profile. The truth is, the ideal nose differs for each person but the idea of harmony with the rest of the face is important i.e. the nose should flow gracefully with pleasing lines and contours. In general, a higher nose bridge does create the illusion of a slimmer face and enhances other facial features
In the last decade , we have only conventional open rhinoplasty as the solution of external nose augmentation . As we advance further in aesthetic medicine ,there are now non-surgical options to get a more defined nose. Nose fillers and nose thread lift are the two simple procedures that promise to help people achieve the right nose bridges and facial features they desire.
Nose fillers enhance the appearance of the nose by injecting hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers into the skin. The substance adds volume to the bridge and tip of the nose.
Nose thread lift is another procedure that has been proven safe and effective in people. It uses polydioxanone (PDO) or polycaprolactone (PCL) threads which are the same material commonly used as sutures in surgeries that the body can absorb.
Polydioxanone (PDO), of which some absorbable sutures are made, stimulate the production of Type I collagen but don’t provide much mechanical lift. Results may last up to 12-18 months with the collagen that forms during the process.
Polycaprolactone (PCL) threads are the newest option, made of a material used for long lasting absorbable sutures. The longer duration of the material translates into more collagen and better support. Unlike the other two thread types, PCL increases both Type 1 and 2-collagen, as well as hyaluronic acid. PCL thread results may last up to 24-36 months.
Nose fillers
Nose filler treatment usually involves injecting Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers or other semi permanent fillers such as Radiesse into the nose bridge or nose tips. It is used to sculpt the nose by precisely adding volume to the nose. These fillers are compatible with your body. After the local anesthetic has set in, the doctor will inject fillers into the bridge and tip of the nose to give it height and projection. Some mild swelling or redness can be expected at the injection points. Some bruising may also occur. However, these side effects should subside in a day or two.
A hyaluronic acid nose filler typically lasts for about 1-2 years while a Radiesse filler (calcium based microspheres) lasts for about 2-3years, after which the nose contour typically reverts back to its original appearance. The injection can then be repeat
Nose Threads
It is also known as ‘lunchtime nose job’. Nose thread uses threads to shape and enhance the look of the nose. Fine threads are inserted under the skin to elevate the nose bridge and tip while stimulating collagen to provide sustainable lift for the nose. The polydioxanone (PDO) or polycaprolactone threads(PCL) are 100% bio-compatible and absorbable by our bodies. Results are immediate as the threads provide scaffold for the nose. A consultation with a doctor is important to decide the number of threads for desired outcomes. Both PCL and PDO thread are made from extremely safe materials which is used vastly in different field of surgery .
As the PDO/PCL threads are bio-absorbable, they will be dissolved under the skin gradually depending on the longevity of the threads used. PDO/PCL are the essential material used by surgeons for their surgical sutures. It is normal to experience some soreness and swelling immediately after the treatment. However, these side effects will subside in a few days.
Nose Thread lift and Filler combination treatment
Sometimes, a combination of both nose thread lifts and fillers are necessary to correct the underlying aesthetic issues. This combination can be done in a single session or sometimes a staged procedure.
As every individual is different and, nose threadlift and nose fillers has slightly different properties, in some cases, it is best to combine both the nose threadlift and nose fillers to achieve the desired result. While nose fillers can help to increase volume at where it is needed, the nose threadlift is an ideal procedure to enhance, straighten, lift and define the nose bridge. Both nose enhancement treatments can provide great results in the nose contour when done properly and have a good longevity before a repeated is needed again.
What are the pros and cons of nose fillers vs nose thread lifts?
In Conclusion
To summarize the benefits of nose fillers and nose thread lifts in a nutshell:
- Fillers are excellent for volume and height of your nose bridge and tip, as well as precise correction of any bumpy or curved defects.
- Nose thread lifts are excellent for definition and tip projection. They are also more rigid than nose fillers (like in-between fillers and surgical implants).
In other words, both nose fillers and thread lifts are useful in their own right. Which to use really depends on your concerns, as well as your skin quality.
It is extremely important to get a certified doctor to do your nose enhancement procedure. An experienced one should recommend the best option for your situation, perform it safely, and teach you how to take care of it. It is, after all, your face.
