What is Botulinum Toxin and how does it work?
Which areas can be treated?
The most commonly treated areas are the frown lines on the forehead, Crow’s feet around the eyes, bunny lines on the bridge of the nose, horizontal necklace lines and vertical platysmal bands. This treatment is particularly effective in those who wish to reduce their natural tendency to frown, want their eyes to look more refreshed or who want a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

The Results Depending on how deep the lines are, anti-wrinkle injections will undoubtedly help and in most instances to smooth the lines away, however, if the lines are very deep, sometimes further treatment with an injectable dermal filler is required in order to get total smoothing of the skin. The clinical studies indicate that having anti-wrinkle injections over a prolonged period means that over time, one should require fewer injections in the future. This treatment can be combined with other treatments for example dermal fillers and thread lifts to achieve a even more superior outcome .
Before & After Comparison
On the day of your treatment one of our doctors will guide you through the entire procedure and obtain your written consent. You will decide which areas you want to treat in order to achieve your desired results. Once you are ready the procedure will begin.
Firstly, the area of skin to be treated is cleaned. Then Botulinum Toxin muscle relaxant will be injected into the target areas through a very fine, specially designed Botulinum Toxin needle. The needles used for the Botulinum Toxin treatments are specifically manufactured to minimize discomfort. Local anesthetic is not usually required for the procedure. The injections may be a little uncomfortable but most people are able to tolerate the slight discomfort. In the short 20 to 30 minute appointment frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet can all be reduced.
Each session takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
The Botulinum Toxin treatment is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure. As a result there is little to no down time although, activities such as exercise should be avoided for at least 6 hours after the treatment. Most people find that the injections cause only mild discomfort. Immediately after the injection there may be mild swelling which usually subsides within 48 hours, and slight bruising is possible.
There is next to no down time, although activities like exercise should be avoided for at least 6 hours after the treatment. The area should not be touched for 24 hours and a review with your doctor should take place 2 to 3 weeks after the first procedure.
When administered by a trained medical professional, Botulinum Toxin injections are relatively safe. Despite being a toxin, the substance used in the Botulinum Toxin injections is a purified, safe strain called Botulinum toxin Type A. As with all treatments, there are some side effects associated with its use, but most of these are mild and temporary. Side effects of this treatment are extremely rare.
Botulinum Toxin injections should not be used in women who are pregnant or breast feeding. Botulinum Toxin injections are not recommended for anyone who has previously experienced an adverse/allergic reaction to the botulinum toxin type A or has a current skin infection in the desired area of treatment.
